HTA&M is action-oriented. Daily, it confronts questions regarding the implementation of research findings, the influence of health technologies on policymaking, changes in clinical behavior, and dissemination of appropriate information to patients and the population. Around the world, in different countries, innovative approaches to these issues are emerging. Our approach combines these innovative approaches with some “classic models” that have been the founding pillars of HTA&M research over the past twenty years.

The intensive teaching format is based on four two-week teaching modules held in different cities (Montreal, Toronto, Rome, and Barcelona). Depending on the student's university of enrolment and program objective (i.e. HTA producer or HTA user) supplemental work involving a research project and thesis or a training program in an appropriate agency with a policy analysis report will be required. Introductory courses to biostatistics and clinical epidemiology will be required and offered by the collaborating universities, either on site or on-line. Readings and course work will also be required between the Modules (approximately 40 hours, pre- and post-module), making full use of Internet technology to facilitate exchanges between students and faculty members.
